Please note, city hall will be closed on the following days:

  • Tuesday, November 5, 2024 for Election Day

  • Monday, November 11, 2024 for Veterans Day (There will be no delay in the garbage pickup due to the Veterans Day holiday.)

  • Thursday, November 28, 2024 Thanksgiving Holiday (Garbage pickup  will be on Friday, November 29, 2024.) 

  • Friday, November 29, 2024 Thanksgiving Holiday (Garbage pickup  will be on Saturday, November 30, 2024.)

  • Wednesday, December 25, 2024 Christmas Holiday (Garbage collection is pushed back one day. Thursday's pickup will be on Friday and Friday's pickup will be on Saturday.)

  • Wednesday, January 1, 2025 New Year's Holiday (Garbage collection is pushed back one day. Thursday's pickup will be on Friday and Friday's pickup will be on Saturday.)

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of New Kensington has prepared a Participation Plan to provide for and encourage citizen participation in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Read the plan to learn more.

 

Businesses in the City of New Kensington must recycle! Pennsylvania’s Municipal Waste Planning Recycling and Waste Reduction Act (Act 101) and the City’s Solid Waste Code requires owners of commercial, municipal, and institutional properties to provide recycling services to tenants or occupants of their buildings. Not only is commercial recycling required, it is also important for preserving resources, reducing emissions, and improving the quality of life in our community. Click here to learn more.

2024 New Garbage Collection Schedule - Beginning January 1, we will no longer be collecting every residence in the City on a single day each week.  Some residence will experience a change to the day that their trash is collected. Please refer to the attached map and calendar to confirm your new collection day. Also, New Year’s Day falls on a Monday this year so the first collection of the year will be delayed by one day. Click here to learn more.

 

The Annual New Kensington Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11 am.  Be part of the excitement as our community comes together to kick off the Holiday Season!   Enjoy marching bands, dazzling performances, and special guest. Any group interested in participating in our annual Christmas Parade should complete this form to register!

 

The Lighting of the Christmas Tree will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 5:30 pm at the Clock on 9th Street & 4th Avenue along with some great Holiday Music. Then continue the night with the Mayor's Annual Christmas Dinner at 6 pm at No. 1 Firehall on 4th Avenue.  Free to anyone with an appetite!! Plenty of food, fun and hospitality!

 

City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 for Election Day and Monday, November 11, 2024 for Veterans Day. Garbage pickup for Monday, November 11, 2024, will be picked up as scheduled in the City of New Kensington.  There will be no delay due to the Veterans Day holiday.
